The change of Cheb´s pedestrian zone has been finished

That is really very good to hear people speak about the restored pedestrian zone (they complain that the pavement is too light and every spot is visible, that the time axis is being destroyed by rust, that the artefact - Gate of Time - is shocking, but some people also say that they like the new pedestrian zone very much). I would be astonishing if such an extensive change would be without any reaction. These words were said by the mayor, Jan Svoboda at the final press conference, and all other speakers were of the same opinion.
Atelier A69 - Architects was represented by Jaroslav Wertig. "Our imagination of the change in part of Svobody Street and its surroundings came true thanks to the attitude of town representatives, suppliers and financing", he said. As for the public´s remarks about the light pavement, rust etc. he said he remembered his first pen case made from light leather. In the beginning every scratch, every dirty spot was visible until it got patina. The architect also reminded the most significant changes which were done against the original project.
•1.       Instead of historiogram - the time axis with the most significant dates from Cheb´s history (decorative cover of drainage canal) there had to be a demogram with names of all Cheb inhabitants in the year 2000.
•2.       The appearance of public lighting was also changed. Nevertheless, the avant-garde lamps were installed.
•3.       Lighting posts were altered into unique lamps with LED panels (besides moving graphic motives they bring various text information including time information).
•4.       Near the crossroad with Májová Street had to rise a meeting point in form of a café as high as first floor on block feet. This was not realized because this object would attract attention too much and other sights would be looked over (nowadays the sculpture of Atlant decorating the round-shaped corner at the Intersport shop (former Čedok).
•5.       Gate of Time by sculptor Marian Karel originally had to be a closing and opening door set into a frame. Finally it was made more abstract and simple so that nobody and nothing could be nipped by it. The artefact is slowly turning (at noon it is "open", at midnight "closed"). The chairman of District Economic Chamber in Cheb, Jakub Pánik, remarked among others that the most and fundamental suppliers were companies from Cheb, and expressed conviction that more people will walk through the town centre willing to use services offered there. The representative of invita company Petr Vašta spoke about homepage and audio-visual products promoting the pedestrian zone project publicity. The final ones (comparing photo gallery, commented documentary film, accelerated cut etc.) are becoming their final appearance at the moment.Zdeněk Černý from the State Archive in Cheb, co-author of the publication Que Procedit - History of Cheb´s Pedestrian Zone, also accepted the invitation to the press conference. He remarked i.e. that the above mentioned building of former Čedok is architectonically the most refined and most impressive construction in the street today and says that the quoin is reclined by massive sculpture of Atlant by sculptor Johann Adolf Mayerle from Cheb.
