The boulevard of Cheb became lively after the reconstruction
The pedestrian zone has been used already for more than a month while the closing stage of the reconstruction enclosing Májová Street is high. The main object of interest and discussions of both inhabitants and tourists is the Gate of Time, as expected.
"Those ones who do not like it say it is too modern for the town centre. I would say this fact is only good because so the artefact will be modern even in the coming years. As for the appearance of Gate of Time and the whole pedestrian zone, people can have comments, but I do not want to intervene in the architects´ and artists´ work," Jan Svoboda, the town´s mayor, thinks. According to him, some critics soften their remarks when they learn the connection with the time axis or the fact that it should remind a not existing house which used to be situated there."The most complaints concern the dirt in the pedestrian zone. Regular cleaning is made, so there is nothing more to do," the mayor adds.According to town hall spokesperson Martina Kuželová, positive public acceptance becomes stronger. "This mainly concern tourists, the inhabitants of Cheb are more critic. Anyway, positive evaluation comes even from citizens who were not optimistic a few weeks ago," Kuželová says.New regulations are valid for restaurants and cafés owners concerning front yards in the pedestrian zone. "It really helped to improve its appearance generally. Mainly now, when the weather is good, the boulevard is really lively which you could not say about the former one," the spokesperson closes.
