The new Cheb´s  boulevard is ready and will be passed over on Monday, 28 June. Immediately after that, in early July, the third and last stage involving the neighbouring parts of Májová Street is going to start.
"Besides finishing cutting the pavement also facades were renewed and lamps and flush mounted lights were plugged in," the construction site manager Monika Štádlerová said adding that among others the Atlas sculpture at former Čedok and Gate of Time are illuminated from below.

The Gate of Time was installed on the border line of the pedestrian zone and King George Square. It is made of steel, its height is 9 meters, width 2 meters and it weighs 3.5 tons. It has not yet been protected with overcoat, according to sculptor Marian Karel it is necessary to wait 6 months at least. "If we did it immediately, the coat could peel off which surely would not look good. As for me personally, I would prefer letting the artefact in raw condition, but the requirement of the town representatives was the same appearance of the artefact an d the time axis", Marian Karel said.
Gate of Time turns dependent on time. It turns around its axis once in 48 hours. "It works like a simple astronomical clock. Similarly as the clock at Prague Old Town Square horologue sets going the apostles, the zulu time switch sets its engine every 10 minutes, which turns the gate half a degree. At noon exactly the gate wing points from the north to the south and ties up to the time axis. At midnight the gate is turned in east - west direction and symbolically closes the entrance to the square in a similar way as it used to be in the middle ages towns," Pavel  Jahelka from the Post Arch company explained.
An inscript "1061 - the first written mention of Cheb" is situated on the Gate of Time. It is a notice of the fact that Cheb commemorates its 950th anniversary of documented existence. Anyway, the new boulevard which came into existence thanks to the European funds is pride of the town as early as today.
