Cheb boulevard face will change during the year because of the greenery.
Greenery plays a very important role in the pedestrian zone project. It will decorate the finished part in the section from Baťa store to Májová Street even before the winter season starts. Five platanes and six decorative pear trees imported from Belgium have to be planted in the period from November 16th to 25th.
According to garden architect Jana Kohlová who designed the green areas for the pedestrian zone, the choise of trees for planting in urban area is quite delimited. „The point is that the trees growing in given area should have small or well workable crown," Kohlová said.
Chosen platanes and pear trees also are suitable because of being aesthetic.
Platane catch your eyes because of its coloured spotted trunk and branches. Typical appearance of older trees is caused by peeling off their bark composed of several differently coloured layers in large flitches.
Decorative pear tree has typical narrow conic crown. White blossom appear in April, tiny fruits are brownish.
The trees will be planted into prepared planting baskets, which are concrete vessels sized 1.5 x 5 metres with substrate. If the trees were planted freely, roots would grow through the engineering network.
The one who walks through the finished part of the pedestrian zone can see that some of the trees will be lightened from below. „Our intention was to promote the boulevard atmosphere with light. Lighting the trees from below helps to create some more experience," Jaroslav Wertig from A69-architects studio remarked.
And why the platanes and pear trees will be planted in November when the first stage was finished as soon as in August? „We needed plants of superior quality, Kohlová explained, saying that this also was the reason why the trees were bought in Belgium. Trees with such strong trunks and so highly set crowns are not available in Czech seed-plots.
